Impeccable Suits I’m more of a conservative dresser. I go to stores like Nordstrom or Ralph Lauren, Brooks Brothers or Jos. A. Bank. I probably like Ralph Lauren best as a designer. I like the quality, and I like the look. Because of the heat here in the summertime, if I wore a suit, it would be a bad idea all day, so I’m here I’m in a golf shirt, plus in a resort a suit would just stick out. I do like dressing up.

Power Ties My father’s family business was men’s accessories like ties and belts, so I have always had a tie collection. I have at least 12 dozen. My favorite tie—I like a power tie— is one that is just a white with a single red stripe. It’s a classic look I can wear with a Navy pin-striped suit.

Staying Fit I’ve been working out religiously for 30 to 35 years. It’s a part of my day now. I like to exercise. We have a great fitness center here at the resort that I use. I do a lot of cardiovascular conditioning. I lift free weights and do the fitness classes. I like change it up periodically, but I will go five or six days a week. At the end of day, it helps you to decompress and it gives me time to think.

Healthy Eating I’ve always believed its the quality of what you eat, not the quantity. When I do cook at home, I make sure I’m buying healthier items at Whole Foods, and make sure to buy organic vegetables. Hopefully, everybody is mindful.

Marriott Resort and Stellaris Casino in Aruba I went on a family vacation to Aruba, and I always take a look at what resort management does to see what’s highly successful. It had enhanced communication to resort guests of all the amenities that were available, provided on a daily basis. In a resort, you have to make sure to know all of the events happening that day so you can take advantage of the amenities that are offered. That’s something that impressed me, and that I brought back to the resort where I am working.

Robert Mayers My father traveled all the time with business, and worked a great deal to support his family. That ingrained into me the importance of working hard, including in every facet of working with my children, from the boardroom to the classroom to the playing field. It’s about giving it everything that you have.

Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits I like to read business and leadership books. You constantly have to change your style to be the best you can be. Hospitality is an industry that is all about people, and just creating a positive work environment through being available to your staff. Stephen Covey’s is such a great book because it makes you think about what you doing as far as your habits.

Family Football I’ve always believed sports can teach you great values you can use: discipline, leadership, social skills, overcoming adversity. Both of my sons play football. I didn’t make them play, but they just fell into that sport, and have both played since they were seven or eight years old. Both play on the offensive line. My oldest son is going to Amherst College to play football. My youngest son Brock plays at Ponte Verde Rocks High School.

Harborside Golf Courses I enjoy going out to play golf, though I have some work to do on my game. I work too much and don’t go out to play enough, so when I do I play here on the courses. I like the Harborside courses; the links of Longboat are long and narrow, and I won’t end up in the water as much over there
