Space for the mind to explore. Students, faculty, administrators and community supporters at Ringling College of Art and Design joined forces this January to celebrate the opening of the new $20-million Alfred R. Goldstein Ringling College Library with a ceremonial “passing of the books.” Forming a human chain from the old library in the campus’ Kimbrough Building down the street to the new building on the other side of Martin Luther King Boulevard, books were handed from person to person on a symbolic journey to the their new home amidst the 46,000-square-foot construction and near 65,000 other books and periodicals housed within. Always looking to the campus of the future, the new library also features a 24-hour computer lab and a three-story abstract mural from Ringling alum Julie Kanapaux.
