Sarasota attorney Margaret Good today announced her candidacy today for state House District 72, seeking a seat recently vacated by state Rep. Alex Miller, R-Sarasota. Good is the first Democrat to announce her candidacy in the special election, and the third candidate overall.

“As we struggle with the aftermath of Hurricane Irma, I’ve been helping my neighbors and our community with recovery," Good said in a statement, "but I know there is so much more I can do. It’s time to shake things up in Tallahassee and fight for the health care and jobs we need, the education our children deserve and the environment that we love.”

Good enteres the race with a number of institutional endorsements, including from state House Democratic Leader-designate Kionne McGhee and former Sarasota County Democratic Party chair Christine Jennings.

Republican James Buchanan and Libertarian Alison Foxall have also filed for the seat. A primary, if necessary, is scheduled for Dec. 5. The election to decide a new representative is slated for Feb. 13.
