Debuting a newly redesigned interior gallery space, Alfstad& Contemporary opened the 2017–18 season with a site-specific installation from the internationally acclaimed Swiss artist, Zimoun. Utilizing more than 200 cardboard boxes, each equipped with a hand-set motor that propels a single ball in pendulous motion, the installation becomes more than a sum of its parts as the asynchronous undulations of the combined mass assert their own singular character. Designed to deteriorate with time, the installation degrades as the boxes weather and the motors run themselves to exhaustion, but the decay becomes an important part of the experience, lending the exhibition to multiple viewings.
