Throughout the history of art, flowers have been a focus of artists worldwide. Rarely, however, is floral-inspired artwork by one of the 20th century's most celebrated artists displayed in a garden setting. This spring, Marc Chagall's nature-inspired artwork will be on view at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens in an immersive exhibition that introduces a new way of examining the work of the prolific artist. Included are the masterwork painting The Lovers (1937), on loan from the Israel Museum, Jerusalem, along with two additional paintings loaned from a private collector that have never before been publicly exhibited.

The outdoor grounds of the bayfront gardens have also been transformed with orchids, bromleiads, bougainevillea and citrus to evoke the South of France, the place Chagall called home for many years. The Gardens' glass house conservatory has been transformed into a cathedral of plants, with plants from the living museum's collection interwoven among large-scale recreations of Chagall's iconic stained glass.

A variety of lectures, classes, cultural performances and special events are offered during the next six months. View a complete schedule of events at Sarasota's living museum at selby.org
