SRQ MAGAZINE'S JULY GREEN ISSUE WELCOMES THREE GUEST EDITORS

SRQ MAGAZINE'S JULY GREEN ISSUE WELCOMES THREE GUEST EDITORS
Sarasota, FL- This July’s SRQ Magazine, the Annual Green Issue, explores the great outdoors to find out what makes our local marine ecosystem healthy. Guided by three renowned guest editors, Dr. Michael Crosby, Clyde Butcher and Sara Kane, we take a look at collaborations on sustainability projects, science innovations, nature appreciation and underwater research.

“Inviting such dedicated, enthusiastic stewards of our environment to guide our editorial focus for the Green issue was an amazing experience,” says Managing Editor Erin Marvin. “We are honored to feature never-before-published images of Clyde Butcher’s dramatic photography in Sarasota County. Sara Kane speaks so passionately about the volunteer efforts in Sarasota Bay. And Dr. Michael Crosby shares the positive impact of increasing ocean literacy. Their vision makes you want to get your feet wet and make a difference.”

Pick up your copy of the July 2012 Green issue today and explore vibrant living on the creative coast.

Dr. Michael Crosby is the senior vice president of research at Mote Marine Laboratory. He has published more than 40 articles in scholarly journals and edited several books and manuals dealing with marine protected areas and coral reefs. “Strategic ocean literacy initiatives, such as those at Mote, are essential to strengthening the ocean literacy of our public, which will ultimately lead to the conservation and sustainability of our oceans”.

Clyde Butcher is part of Florida’s Artist Hall of Fame and was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the North American Nature Photography Association. “I keep reassuring myself that if everyone just puts a drop in the bucket, eventually it will overflow, and so I keep doing what I can do. Join me in doing what you can do to keep our community and planet healthy”.

Sara Kane is the public outreach manager for the Sarasota Bay Estuary Program. “Environmental education is a passion of mine, and everyone can do their part to make a positive change in our local environment. Each of us plays a major role in preserving and protecting out environment through our choices and actions each day."
