Herald-Tribune Conducting Layoffs

Todays News

The Sarasota Herald-Tribune was among a number of newspapers owned by Gatehouse Media conducting layoffs on Monday and Tuesday. Employees let go include some high-profile and long-time editorial staff members. The move comes three and a half months after the sale of the newspaper to New Media Investment Group, an arm of Gatehouse, as part of a $280-million acquisition of Halifax Media publications.

The Herald-Tribune has not confirmed the number of layoffs and said no statement has been released by the company before ending a phone call. Sources within the publication confirmed layoffs began Monday. Gerry Galipault, former entertainment editor , announced on Facebook he was among the layoffs—and that he already started work for another company, PauseandPlay.com. The media website NewsandTech.com also reported sources within the newspapers reported layoffs. The widely read media blog JimRomenesko.com listed long-time sportswriter John Brockmann among those let go in Sarasota.
