Florida Studio Theatre closes out its Summer Cabaret with a final production in the John C. Court Cabaret featuring the all-female singing trio The Gigi’s. It’s a high-energy romp down memory lane as the artists belt pop hits and ballads made famous by some of the 20th century’s most celebrated female artists from the '40s till today, all the while adding their own theatrical flair and group harmonies for a new take on these fan favorites. Says FST Associate Artist Catherine Randazzo, “I eagerly anticipate a fresh twist.”

Starting with the standards of the '40s and '50s before moving on to the birth of rock and roll and the smooth sounds of soul, and diving into the crazy worlds of psychedelia, disco and modern-day pop, dynamism is the name of the game for these singers as they bring these distinct musical eras to life through their songs, sounds and even a couple stories sprinkled in here and there. Great girl power groups from the Shirells to the Bangles to the Go Go’s to Destiny’s Child all get their due and songs regularly performed include “My Boyfriend’s Back,” “Stop In The Name Of Love,” “Heart of Glass,” “I Will Survive” and “Mama Mia.”

“The GiGi’s offer a unique melodic rendering for music lovers,” says Randazzo. “There is something for everyone as the last summer cabaret production creates a beautiful blend of class, style and tight harmonies.”

For all the fun, The GiGi’s make the journey more than a medley of pleasant remembrances, but a tribute to the history of the female voice in popular music, from The Supremes and Carole King to today’s Meghan Trainor. With their own interpretation of these certified classics and classics-in-the-making, The GiGi’s singers continue the tradition themselves.

Performing in the Florida Studio Theatre John C. Court Cabaret through September 25, tickets to see The GiGi’s range from $32–36.
