Five-O Donut Co. Set to Open

Hunting & Gathering

Sarasotans sure do love their doughnuts, from cake-style at La Dona to classics at Gold Star and the epic rounds at the Amish Baking Company. But Chef Christine Nordstrom of Sift Bakehouse has something extra special up her sleeve, and plans to unveil her new venture, Five-O Donut Co. in the next two to three weeks. Located next to a bail bondsman and mere steps away from the Sarasota Police Department, Nordstrom says the name and the logo (an old-timey policeman sporting a donut, billy club and a smile) are meant to be fun and tongue-in-cheek, and even checked with many of her law-enforcement friends to make sure it was kosher—all came back with a laugh. The focus will be on yeast doughnuts (think Krispy Kreme) and filled O's (think hand-made peanut butter cream), and five specialty styles will be on display: yeast, cake, cruller, brioche and croissant. Stay tuned for options such as the Mallomar and the Cereal Cruller, all rolled, proofed, fried and iced by a professional doughnut maker from Ohio tapped by Nordstom—doors should be open to civilians and law enforcers alike in a few weeks.
