The School Board of Manatee County is reviewing 27 different name nominations submitted by the public for a new middle school scheduled to open in East Manatee County in August 2019. The new middle school will be located just east of Gullett Elementary School on 44th Ave. E. The name nomination process started during an “East County Middle School Community Meeting” held at Gullett on Monday, December 18, 2017. The District’s Communications, Family and Community Engagement Department then collected the name nominations from the public up until Wednesday, January 31, 2018. The School Board was presented with the list of nominated names on February 27. The Board is scheduled to narrow the list to three favorites during a School Board Workshop on March 13, where the public is invited to provide their input on the nominated names. The Board is then scheduled to select and approve the name for the new middle school during a public hearing held during a regularly scheduled Board Meeting that same evening.
