SRQ DAILY FRIDAY WEEKEND EDITION
FRIDAY APR 12, 2019 |
BY BRITTANY MATTIE
We couldn’t get enough of the pottery mavens, featured in February’s 2019’s issue in ‘Seize the Clay’. Luckily, we’re able to double dip on the fun and artful mastery of hand thrown earthenware again, now that spring has sprung. Artists Joan Libby Hawk and Anja Palombo will show their new ceramic works at a collaborative Ceramic Open Studio - Spring Fling at Sarasota Green Pottery. The studio is situated in an idyllic country-like setting, where the event will be set up on the lawn under big old oak trees. There will be refreshments to enjoy the blooming April weather, as well as good company amongst other throwmakers, artisans, gardeners and hobbyists. "The change of seasons and longer sunny days are reflected in this show's work," says Palombo. "Florida's spring fruit and flowers inspire beautiful and useful pieces. I'm thrilled that customers welcome them into their lovely homes."
Spring Fling opens its studio doors to anyone interested or curious about the creative skill of ceramics and gives visitors a chance to meet the artists, throwing demonstrations and discover the perfect pieces for homes and gifts. The event will also feature Hawk and Palombo’s newest items that celebrate all things spring—including berry bowls, unique vases and painted ceramic art with tangible qualities like serving, drinking and gardening—showcasing functional pieces that are artful and artful pieces that are functional. "It makes one want to change things up," says Libby Hawk. "Bring in some of the tones and colors from Sarasota's natural world. One luminous handmade piece changes an entire room."
Spring Fling - Ceramics Open Studio is spinning off on next Thursday, April 18, 2:30pm to 7:00pm at Sarasota Green Pottery, 2429 Burlington Lane, Sarasota, 941-266-9979.
