This Saturday, September 21 marks International Coastal Cleanup Day (ICCD), a day set aside each year by nonprofit environmental advocacy group Ocean Conservancy. ICCD continues to be one of the world's largest annual preservation and protection events and volunteer efforts for oceans, waves and beaches. The global movement encompasses 6 million volunteers in 90 countries and across the United States.

Zooming in to this particular coastal metropolis, a Ringling Bridge Park Coastal Cleanup event will be taking place on Saturday, in conjunction with Sarasota County’s Keep Sarasota County Beautiful (KSCB) program. The county-wide beautification program has been around since 1987—initiating community cleanup projects to help keep the region free of litter and improve the overall vivacity of our immediate environment.

Participating in the event is Sarasota-based medical technology and consumer healthcare products company, Omeza as "a perfect way to kick off the fall beach season by helping keep one of our beautiful waterfront parks pristine,” says Leigh Kramer of Helicopter Marketing. Residents, visitors, local media and businesses are welcomed to come participate, and volunteers are still needed from 8am to 11am. The cleanup will commence at Marina Jack's east parking lot behind Unconditional Surrender Sculpture, and will go from there to Causeway Park 422 John Ringling Causeway. Trash bags, gloves, particle masks and high-fives will be provided.
