Tuesday Dining and Food Edition

"I love the holidays. When I heard about this concept from friends, I knew it was the perfect way to spread cheer and hope."

- Marc Epstein, Owner, Tamiami Tap.

[The Dish]  Miracle at the Tap Rings in the Season
Kevin Allen, kevin.allen@srqme.com

Tamiami Tap regulars will hardly recognize the interior, whose halls have been handsomely decked for the holiday season. But it’s the special cocktail menu — part of the Miracle at the Tap pop-up menu — that will be the real star of the show from now until Dec. 23.

Miracle at the Tap features 10 signature holiday cocktails and two specialty shots. The cocktails come with holiday themed-names like the Christmapolitan, Santa’s Little Helper, and the Elfing Around.

The mulled wine is as close as you’ll get to Christmas in a glass. It’s mulled red wine with ruby port, orange liqueur, and a variety of Christmas spices like nutmeg and star anise.

If you’re feeling sassy, you can try the Die Hard-inspired “Yippie Ki Yay Mother F****r!” It’s a tropical twist on a holiday drink, featuring three types of rum, ube and coconut orgeat, and pineapple.

The Miracle pop-up bar concept started in New York City, expanding to locations around the country. You can feel good about the fact that you’re helping a good cause as you get your buzz on, as proceeds from drink sales will go to Satchel’s Last Resort Animal Shelter and Forty Carrots Family Center.

“I love the holidays!” said Tamiami Tap owner Marc Epstein. “When I heard about this concept from friends, I knew it was the perfect way to spread cheer and hope.”

The drinks are served in clever mugs and glassware that are also available for purchase so the party can continue at home.

[Arts & Entertainment]  Temple Sinai Presents A Night at the Theater, Broadway and More!

Temple Sinai announces “A Night at the Theater – Broadway and More,” a special musical performance by Sarah Nordin and Tyler Putnam on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 7:00pm. The outstanding husband-and-wife team, mezzo- soprano Sarah Nordin and bass-baritone Tyler Putnam, has been delighting audiences across the country with their concerts of opera arias and duets mixed with classical musical, theater songs and American standards. Ms. Nordin has performed with the Metropolitan Opera and toured with the company to Japan. She is a specialist in operas by Mozart and Rossini. Praised by Opera News for the “clear beauty” of her voice and her “spot-on comic timing,” Ms. Nordin has been charming audiences at opera houses in Tampa, Orlando, St. Petersburg and St. Louis. Most notably in 2021, Ms. Nordin made her solo debut at Carnegie Hall. Tyler Putnam has performed with The Santa Fe Opera, Opera Omaha, and Manitoba Opera in Winnipeg, Canada. The two met while working on a production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's South Pacific in New Hampshire and have been touring the country together ever since. Possessing a voice described as “robust and resonant” by TheatreMania and deemed a “standout” by Opera Magazine, Mr. Putnam is in high
demand. World premieres, operetta and musical theatre further distinguish the broad scope of his abilities as a singer and actor. Temple Sinai is located at 4631 S. [Donations]  How to Donate Wisely on Giving Tuesday

The week following Thanksgiving isn't just about shopping. Thanks to Giving Tuesday, it's now a major time to support charity. Taking place on the Tuesday after Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the Giving Tuesday movement has helped raise more than $1 billion for online charitable giving worldwide since its creation in 2012. The BBB Wise Giving Alliance at Give.org urges potential donors to research charities before giving to ensure their generous contributions are going to trustworthy organizations.

BBB Wise Giving Alliance is sharing the following tips to help donors give wisely and make the most of their generosity this holiday season and all year round: Watch out for name similarities. When charities seek support for the same cause, their names are often similar. Before you give, be sure you have the exact name of the charity to avoid a case of mistaken identity. Review the website carefully. A responsible charity will include the following facts on its website: its mission and programs, measurable goals, and concrete criteria that describe its achievements. Avoid on-the-spot donation decisions from unfamiliar organizations. The holidays bring a higher frequency of donation requests outside public locations. Don’t succumb to pressure to make an immediate giving decision. Responsible organizations will welcome your gift tomorrow as much as they do today. Be wary of emotional appeals. Marketers have been known to exploit the holidays to make emotional pleas to donors. Instead of making an impulse decision based on emotion, do some research first to verify that your selected charity operates ethically. Check with state charity officials. In many states, charities are required to register with the office of the attorney general before soliciting. You can find this information on the National Association of State Charity Officials (NASCO) website. Rely on standards-based evaluations. Charities can demonstrate they are trustworthy by agreeing to in-depth evaluations such as the 20 BBB Standards for Charity Accountability. Get free access to charity reports at Give.org. Research tax status. Don’t assume every organization claiming to do good is a tax-exempt charity. You can check an organization’s tax status with the IRS Tax Exempt Organization Search tool. Also, make sure your contribution is tax deductible.
