Offerings include porcelain, pottery, jade, scholar's objects, bronzes, screens, furniture and paintings. Featured: Noted Yuan Dynasty painter Qian Xuan was known for his masterful depictions of birds and flowers and landscapes, which blended Song Dynasty realism with the archaic Tang style. His works were distinctive in their time, and as with many famous Chinese painters, the style is copied by later artists in tribute. March 12, 2017, Doyle New York.

Photographs

Doyle's auction of photographs on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at 10am offers fine art, early photography, such as travel albums and daguerreotypes, and photographic literature. Featured: In 1956, the photographer Alfred Wertheimer, was barely older than the 21-year-old singer he had been commissioned to photograph, Elvis Presley. Elvis was far from the cultural phenomenon he was to become, and Wertheimer captured an intimacy that would have been impossible a few years later. This photograph of Presley on his motorcycle resonates with many of the leitmotifs that made him a legend, estimated $1,500 to 2,500. March 12, 2017, Doyle New York.
