Near everyone had the best seat in the house at this year’s “Granddaddy of Them All” four-day rodeo—the signature event from the Arcadia All Florida Championship Rodeo—which celebrated 90 years this past March in Arcadia’s brand new Mosaic Arena. With a $9 million price tag, the mammoth arena seats nearly 8,000 within its vaulted confines, the steel and concrete construction standing in marked contrast to the rich clay of the perfect oval in the middle, where bronc riders and calf ropers and, of course, bull riders test their mettle against their hoofed competition. Not just sizable, but smart as well, the design largely eliminates intrusive support beams that obstruct views, while a whole bevy of vast fans overhead help keep everyone cool. With more improvements and additions still planned, VIP sections, expanded concessions and even stables and a rodeo museum are in the works. A multipurpose arena, everything from monster truck shows to festivals are anticipated to fill the space throughout the year.
