[Retail]  Holiday Shopping Rate

[Development]  The Return of Aqua

A condominium project put on hold just a few months ago is once again alive. Developers for Aqua, a high-end luxury development on Golden Gate Point, have announced the structure will rise.

The $37-million development in June was cancelled by developers, who at the time cited “unforeseen zoning challenges” that would prevent the project from moving forward as designed. Then earlier this month, a new site plan was put before the City of Sarasota Planning Commission and approved 4-0, and this week an announcement was issued saying Premier Sotheby’s International Realty associates Cheryl Loeffler and Joel Schemmel were once again marketing the property.

Land Resource Strategies president Bruce Franklin, representing property owner 280 GGP, told the planning board the Aqua project was previously the second phase of another high-rise project but that a previous site plan had expired and a new site plan was needed. As in the previous iteration of Aqua, the project will be a nine-story building with eight living units. Amenities on the project will include private two-care garages, individual boat slips, concierge service, fitness and yoga studios and top-line security.

New renderings are not yet available for the relaunched Aqua, but Franklin at the Planning Board meeting showed unfinished renderings with modern designs. Those showcased a bayside pool and gathering spaces. “It will have an iconic style,” he said.

[Philanthropy]  Animal Rescue Coalition Receives Grant Award

An award from the William G. and Marie Selby Foundation will help the Animal Rescue Coalition (ARC) extend its spay and neutering services to outlying areas of critical need in Sarasota, Manatee, DeSoto and Charlotte counties. ARC, an organization whose mission is to end the killing of adoptable dogs and cats by making spay/neuter services more accessible and affordable to low-income pet owners, will use the award to purchase a new vehicle to implement its Transport Program, bringing animals from outlying areas into a new, 3,800-square-foot, fully-equipped spay and neuter facility.
