[Politics]  Clermont Files For City Commission
Jacob Ogles, jacob.ogles@srqme.com

Sarasota city elections remain more than a year away, but one race may already be heating up. Dan Clermont, an Arlington Park resident, filed his paperwork to run for City Commission in District 3. He promised a commitment to growth that’s comparable with the community and a focus on water quality issues facing the city.

“Sarasota is a very beautiful, very special city,” he said. “We have a responsibility to preserve and protect it. A dose of good old American common sense at City Hall is long overdue.”

Already, Sarasota attorney Erik Arroyo has filed for the same district seat last month. Arroyo had previously filed to run for Florida House of Representatives in District 72 and transferred his candidacy.

The seat is held now by Commissioner Shelli Freeland Eddie, also an attorney, who won the seat in 2015 after defeating incumbent Stan Zimmerman. Eddie has not announced if she will seek re-election.

Clermont quickly worked to position himself as a conservation-minded candidate. “When we consider any new development, we also have to make sure that we preserve and protect public open spaces such as Bobby Jones Golf Course, Payne and Arlington Park, as well as ensure that Legacy Trail connections are made to each neighborhood in our district.”

Not long after the city and nearby county utilities reported sewage spills, he also pushed on environmental issues. “We have serious water management and pollution problems, contributing to red tide,” he said, “and we need to find common sense ways to fund these improvements without raising utility bills 50 percent as planned.”

The district city elections next year will be the first since voters passed a Change The Date referendum, moving city elections to fall of even-numbered years.

[Business]  Achieva Credit Union Named One of Florida's Top 10 Credit Unions

Achieva Credit Union has been named as one of Florida’s 10 best credit unions, based on a national survey of banking and credit union customers conducted by Forbes with market research firm Statista. Forbes surveyed more than 25,000 people around the U.S. about their banking relationships, with the financial institutions being rated on overall recommendations and customer satisfaction. Among the categories covered: trust, terms and conditions, branch services, digital services and financial advice. Achieva ranked No. 9 on the list. Only 3.1% of the nation’s financial institutions qualified for “best-in-state” status.

Achieva Credit Union was founded in 1937 in Pinellas County. Today, it has more than $1.5 billion in assets and 25 branches serving more than 150,000 members throughout Charlotte, Collier, DeSoto, Hernando, Hillsborough, Lee, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, and Sarasota counties.

[Healthcare]  Doctors Choice Home Care Receives Five-Star Rating from CMS

Doctor’s Choice Home Care achieved a five-star rating for quality of patient care from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). This is the highest rating attainable and includes CMS reporting on eight of the 23 outcome and patient care quality measures. CMS created the five-star quality rating system to help consumers and their families, friends, and caregivers compare home health agencies, as well as choose a quality agency more easily. The majority of home health agencies nationwide rank in the middle with three to three-and-a-half stars being the average rating. Agencies rated five stars are considered to provide above-average quality care.
