“You have to take care of your voice and it's extremely important that you hydrate. I drink two ounces of green tea, they say to drink eight glasses of water a day, but I exceed that to keep my voice hydrated. Then you need to warm up all the different cavities in your voice – in this show I sing different styles, some in contralto which is my natural range and others with a mixed voice and others in what they call a head voice,” says Jannie Jones, one of the cast members of Florida Studio Theatre’s cabaret, The 70s: More Than A Decade. The hit show, which ran for 19 weeks in FST’s Court Cabaret, was brought back for another 4 weeks in the beginning of March and is now airing in the company’s Mainstage Theatre.

The musical revue show encompasses all things ‘70s music and features everything from “Let’s Get It On'' by Marvin Gaye to The Doobie Brothers’ “Listen to the Music.” “It’s amazing to watch our audiences who were alive and well in the ‘70s sing along to all of the songs,” says Jones. “One of my favorite songs to perform is “The Way We Were” by Barbara Streisand. It allows me to not just sing the song but to go back in time and remember somebody in particular and draw from that place of emotion – it's wonderful to look into the audience's eyes and see them go back in their minds to the way they were with somebody else.”

For cast member Eddie Weaver, who recently completed FST’s Professional Training Program as an Acting Apprentice, the production has been a chance to chart his own musical journey into unfamiliar territory. “I love performing “Bad Bad Leroy Brown'' by Jim Croce, it’s one of those songs that gets the audience clapping. I didn’t know it before I joined the show but it's a great song. It gets the crowd riled up and they love singing along with it, so it brings me joy to bring them joy.”
