A veteran and prolific watercolorist residing near the Burns Court area of Sarasota, Judy Saltzman’s star has risen steadily since 2015, with the artist and her work winning more than 30 awards in three years. This piece, inspired by the Master’s Laser Regatta right here in Sarasota Bay, sees Saltzman bringing multiple techniques to bear. Beginning with a detailed drawing, the artist then creates layers by splattering paints on the wet surface, using masking and glazing to control the flow of color, before turning to more traditional wet paint on dry paper methods for final highlights. Entitled Wet and Wild, the painting was selected from more than 400 entries for the 41st International Watermedia Exhibition in Houston, TX, where it received an Honorable Mention.
