Venice Regional Bayfront Health announced Inna Makievsky as its new chief nursing officer. Born and raised in the Ukraine, Makievsky had a Master’s degree in engineering and a career in naval architecture before entering healthcare. She spent six years directing risk management and overseeing quality at the General Children’s Hospital in Kherson, Ukraine. Makievsky, her husband, and their two children immigrated to the United States in 1989. Unable to speak English, her first job in the U.S. was selling women’s shoes. Under the mentoring of her host family mother who worked in healthcare, Makievsky returned to school to pursue nursing and learn to speak English. While in school, she worked in a clinical laboratory holding various positions including phlebotomist, stat lab clerk, and microbiology tech. After completion of nursing school, Makievsky spent seven years in critical care working in cardiovascular intensive care unit, neuro-spine ICU and oncology ICU units, and was most recently chief nursing executive at St. Cloud Regional Medical Center in St. Cloud.
