CasAntica, 1213 North Palm Avenue, 941-366-1840

CasAntica is one of those restaurants I’m always meaning to try but I never quite seem to get around to it. I drive past the beautiful grey villa on Palm Avenue on an almost nightly basis and I’m always drawn to the twinkling courtyard lights and air of exotic mystery that seems to cloak the building. On Monday night, it occurred to me that this might be the perfect night to try CasAntica. The courtyard is more beautiful inside than outside and the interior is cozy and convivial. The owners greet each guest, sip wine with regulars at the bar and present plates of beautiful food with genuine smiles. To borrow an exclamation used regularly by my friend, Maggie Hughes: “You Guys!” As in: You guys! I can’t believe I’ve never been here before. You guys! It’s so romantic. You guys! The service is impeccable (ask for Charlie). You guys! The Grouper Livornese special was to die for. You guys! Their house made limoncello is the real deal. I truly enjoyed my visit to CasAntica and I’m really glad that they are open on Mondays.
