Opening up to the idea to fill its prospering retail spaces up to locally-owned businesses and tentants—as opposed to the many franchise chains saturated throughout The University Town Center (UTC)—the shopping and dining mecca recently welcomed Lotus boutique this month for a pop-up takeover. “We’re always looking for creative approaches to enhance the retail experience at our shopping centers,” says Evan Benderson, leasing representative of UTC. “And pop-up stores are a great way to add some newness and excitement.” 

Downtown Sarasota shoppers may already know the women's fashion boutique from its Main Street flagship. But this kind of venture proves exciting—expanding Lotus’ bandwidth to a new and more densely populated market that uses the UTC as its go-to shopping hub. The pop-up intends to stay open through the holiday season, with the hopes that it will become a full-time store. “This pop-up not only provides them with the opportunity to grow and expand, but it also adds a dynamic, new retail destination to the UTC district,” says Benderson. “It’s a win-win.”
