The Book Keepers Documentary Film Playing Sarasota 8/12

Arts & Culture

The Book Keepers is opening on Friday for an exclusive one night exhibition at Burns Court Cinema. The film tells the story of Carol Wall, author of the book Mr. Owita’s Guide To Gardening, whose debut memoir – about cancer, friendship, and cultivating an open heart – was a breakout success. But joy turned to tragedy when the breast cancer she wrote about returned, and she died months after its publication. Determined to keep his late-wife’s dream alive, her husband Dick Wall becomes the unlikely spokesperson for the book and embarks on an unexpected cross-country promotional tour. He's joined by his filmmaker son, Phil, who is torn between saving his mom's first book and his concern for how his dad is coping with their new reality. Their inspirational journey sparks discussion on loss, relationships, and the healing power of sharing stories. The film was the audience and jury award winner for Best Documentary at Austin Film Festival, and recently had a limited theatrical run via First Run Features in June.
