Each year, SRQ Media invites the community to nominate individuals with hearts of giving who have made a significant impact with local nonprofit organizations — from volunteers and board members to individual staff members and donors. This year, attendees were thrilled to be together as we recognized these individuals at our annual Giving Coast and Good Hero Awards luncheon and panel discussion on Tuesday, January 28 at Michael’s on East in Sarasota. In the coming weeks, we are happy to feature each of the ten honorees in our Wednesday Philanthropic edition of SRQ Daily.

The Storm Hero Honoree we are recognizing today understood the importance of swift action when disaster struck. Matt Tuggle is Director of One Mission Disaster Response. As soon as news of Hurricane Milton's devastation reached him, he mobilized his team and resources without delay. Recognizing that the first few days are critical for survival and recovery, he ensured that his team was among the first to arrive at the disaster sites. This prompt response helped bridge the gap until larger agencies could deploy their resources. Understanding the dire need for basic necessities following a disaster, he coordinated the distribution of essential supplies such as food, water, clothing and medical supplies. His efforts ensured that these crucial resources reached even the most remote and severely impacted areas. His commitment extended beyond immediate relief. He actively participated in long-term recovery and rebuilding efforts, advocating for sustainable solutions that would fortify communities against future disasters. His dedication to building back better highlighted his vision for resilient communities. Through his unwavering dedication and proactive measures, Matt Toggle made a significant impact in supporting communities during the crises caused by Milton and Helene. His leadership, compassion, and strategic approach served as an inspiration for others in the field of disaster response.
