[Celebration]  Community Harvest SRQ Celebrates Anniversary with a Summer Garden Dinner Party
Barbie Heit, barbie.heit@srqme.com

This year marks a significant milestone for Community Harvest SRQ--a locally rooted nonprofit that cultivates food system transformation through community-driven solutions--as they celebrate their 15th anniversary. To commemorate this occasion, they are hosting a Summer Garden Dinner Party that honors the remarkable people, partnerships and places that contribute to the vitality of their local foodshed.

The Community Harvest SRQ 15th Anniversary Celebration: A Summer Garden Dinner Party will take place Saturday, August 23, from 5-8:00pm at the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, Downtown Sarasota Campus.

"This enchanting evening will provide attendees with the unique opportunity to connect with local growers, learn about our initiatives in food resilience and waste reduction and hear inspiring stories from the individuals we serve," says Program Director, Andrew Hudson, M.div. "We are thrilled to feature five exceptional producers who embody the spirit of our foodshed: a dedicated farming couple, a passionate farmsteader, an inspiring farm educator, a grove owner/operator and a permaculture food forest installer."

Guests will enjoy a delightful meal infused with local flavors, expertly prepared by Michael's on East. During dinner, Community Harvest SRQ will present a captivating slideshow retrospective celebrating 15 years of impact, weaving in the histories of their featured guests. Following the meal, each producer will share their insights, culminating in a multimedia presentation by Hudson. This presentation will illuminate the organization's mission to foster relationships with these producers and encourage the public to engage with them in meaningful ways that benefit both their farms and the broader ManaSota foodshed.

To conclude the evening, Board President, Dr. Anne Miller, will extend an invitation for deeper involvement in Community Harvest SRQ's mission.

Working families are being forced to choose between essentials such as rent, medical care/prescriptions, utilities and food. In an effort to increase financial stability in the community, United Way Suncoast has awarded All Faiths Food Bank a three-year grant of $270,000 to support the food bank/hunger relief organization's Benefits Assistance program. [SOON]  GALLERY: Joseph's Coat: Skyspace by James Turrell , August 14 – October 24

Joseph’s Coat: A Skyspace by James Turrell (2011) is a triumph of technology, engineering, and aesthetics. The Skyspace, created by internationally-renowned artist James Turrell, is a gathering place for contemplation and offers a unique experience. At sunset, a sophisticated system of LED lights is employed to change the color of the space. In doing so, the artist changes the context in which we view the sky through the 24 foot aperture in the ceiling, affecting our perception of the natural environment and the surroundings. As we gaze up at the sky we are invited to contemplate light, perception, and experience!

[SOON]  PERFORMANCE: Lady Disdain , June 6 – June 27

There's much ado about something in this whip-smart, laugh-out-loud new romantic comedy from Lauren Gunderson. Lady Disdain is a fast-paced, razor-sharp riff on the deliciously dramatic world of Fantasy Romance novels (yes, those ones-you know them, you love them). Beatrice and Benedict, rival audiobook narrators with voices made for swooning and tempers made for sparring, are locked in a battle of wits, words, and wildly inconvenient attraction. Asolo Rep proudly presents this world premiere from one of America's most celebrated and funny playwrights.

Asolo Repertory Theatre, 5555 N Tamiami Trail, Sarasota

[SOON]  GALLERY: Rotation 5: Exhibitions on View at ArtCenter Sarasota , May 21 – August 1

ArtCenter Sarasota continues its Centennial Season with Medium Mutiny, a juried exhibition selected by Ed Swan Jr. that celebrates boundary-pushing works challenging tradition through bold experimentation in form, material, and concept. Solo exhibitions include Living by the Water by Cat Tesla, whose serene, abstract paintings reflect a journey of healing and transformation inspired by Florida's landscapes. A new body of work by Anja Palombo, blending her deep love of nature and art history into expressive visual narratives. In Architect as Artist, co-curated by Morris Hylton III, Sarasota-based architects including Carl Abbott, Jerry Sparkman, and Javi Suárez present multidisciplinary works that blur the line between design and fine art. This group exhibition honors Sarasota's architectural legacy and highlights the creative synergy between structure, space, and artistic vision.

The figure is one of the oldest records of our existence as a species capable of storytelling; depictions of the human body constitute some of the oldest subjects in art. EMBODIED expands on the definition of the human figure by bringing together varied representations in painting, sculpture, fiber, video, and mixed media by some of the most exciting artists working in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.
