"We hope to be here for a long time. We love downtown Sarasota."

[Shopping]  Salty Stitch Threads Its Way Into Downtown Sarasota
Cecilia Mould, cecilia.mould@srqme.com

A St. Armands staple since 2021, Salty Stitch opened an additional and expanded location in Downtown Sarasota this March.

Lindsey Klentzin opened her first store in 2010, located on Fire Island in New York, shortly before opening Salty Stitch as a women’s apparel store in 2013 in the same area. When she moved to Sarasota, she brought Salty Stitch and its focus on modern coastal apparel with her to St. Armands Circle, but expanded to sell men’s clothing as well. “I took the concepts of both the stores in New York and put them into one,” Klentzin says.

The new location on Main Street is significantly larger than the St. Armands spot, so Klentzin has expanded its range of dresses, tops, bottoms and hand-picked accessories. “Downtown Sarasota has always been on our radar. It just seemed like the perfect location. It's a little bit further out, but it seems like Sarasota is expanding that way, and we love the space,” she says.

Klentzin began discussions about the downtown space last fall, while the St. Armands location was closed following Hurricanes Helene and Milton. After finally getting the keys to the new location, Klentzin wasted no time and opened in a week. Now, both locations are open year-round for visitors and locals alike to find chic, coastal clothing that perfectly fits with the vibe of Sarasota.

The Main Street store features high ceilings and large windows, aspects that Klentzin says drew her to the space. “It's an old bank building built in the 1920s, so it has a lot of charm and a lot of character, and that's something that the St. Armands location doesn't have. I loved it and thought it was beautiful. It was something different, with a lot of history,” she says.

In the future, Klentzin plans to continue growing her business and remain a go-to place for tourists and locals to shop. With a customer-service focus, she says that Salty Stitch aims to go above and beyond in welcoming the community.

“We hope to be here for a long time. We love downtown Sarasota,” Klentzin says. “It's the perfect little and big city or big little city, the perfect-sized place. There's a little bit of everything. And we feel like we could provide something different than what was already there.”
