Sarah Finazzo grew up loving the process of nesting and creating a home. Intending to turn a passion project into a business, she opened Nest of Kin on June 20, a mid-century modern furniture and decor store on Siesta Drive.

“I really love the idea of inheritance, and I think there’s something special about furnishing a home with pieces from past history,” she says. “There’s so much beauty in the items that came before us.”

After living in Los Angeles for about 10 years working in creative spaces, the Florida native moved back to her roots to set up shop in Southgate, where Ampersand Construction handled the design and construction of her store. Finazzo says she loves the vast network of vendors in Siesta Key, and she wants people to be able to furnish their homes with items that have a biography of their own.

“There’s just an amazing market here in Florida for old items,” she says. “Everyone has their own flair and touch.”

Nest of Kin sells furniture, sculptural items, kitchen and bar pieces, ceramics and wall art that are mostly from the 1940s-80s. Finazzo says she buys less by category and more by instinct.

“I’m making sure everything in my store is of the utmost quality,” she says. “I try to really only source pieces that stand the test of time and can hold up well for the next owner.”

In addition to regular store hours, Finazzo offers decorating consulting from Sunday to Wednesday for complimentary in-store appointments. Clients can also book in-home styling appointments to see art on their walls or items physically in their spaces.

Finazzo hopes that people can visit her store and walk out with something they didn’t know they needed–that can become part of their story.

“In some ways, I think we’re very utilitarian as people and just think about functionality,” she says. “I really hope people can wander into my store and find something that really speaks to their soul.”
