"The two cultures are very closely related, if not identical. Everyone at Trenam has been very welcoming, and it has been a pretty seamless transition."

[Business]  Sarasota Law Firm Joins Tampa-Based Trenam Law
Mallory Evans, mallory.evans@srqme.com

On June 1, Sarasota law firm Norton Hammersley Lopez & Skokos officially joined the Tampa-based Trenam Law, bringing in nine attorneys spanning business, real estate, litigation and private client services. Peter Skokos, a partner at Norton Hammersley, is among the attorneys joining Trenam and says cultivating client relationships has been a priority of both firms during this transition.

“We put an importance on developing long-term relationships with clients and providing them with good service,” Skokos says.

Norton Hammersley has over 35 years of law practice experience in Sarasota. Trenam expanded into Sarasota in mid-2024, and Skokos says this partnership will help Trenam grow even more in the Sarasota market.

“We’ve been independent for almost 40 years and have enjoyed the freedom that comes along with that,” he explains. “Trenam reached out to us a couple of years ago–we’ve worked with several of their attorneys over the years and have a great relationship with them–and as time went on, we needed to think more seriously about joining forces with a firm.”

Over the last 5-10 years, Skokos says Norton Hammersley experienced an administrative burden and challenges of growing the firm through hiring, making it difficult to focus solely on the practice of law.

“We looked at Trenam as being the perfect partner to solve all of those problems,” he says. “They have a wealth of resources and staff.”

Three attorneys from Sarasota’s Trenam office will be transitioning to the Norton Hammersley office. Skokos says the client-focused approach of both Trenam and Norton Hammersley will help provide additional resources and more attorneys to represent clients.

“We can’t overstate the cultural aspect of it–the two cultures are very closely related, if not identical,” he says. “Everyone at Trenam has been very welcoming, and it has been a pretty seamless transition.”
