This Month at the Education Foundation of Sarasota County

January is notoriously a busy month in Sarasota and at the Education Foundation of Sarasota County, it is no exception. For us January is full of art, exploration, innovation, and running. With the help of dedicated volunteers, we proudly present the annual createSRQ High School Juried Art competition. More than 200 pieces of student art are on exhibit and open to the public January 13-15 at Ringling College of Art + Design Exhibition Hall. With unique pieces that include drawings, paintings, photography, printmaking, film, sculptures, jewelry and ceramics, students compete for scholarships and awards such as Best in Show. Just as the art competition concludes, we host 23 college admissions officers from across the country to visit each of the five area high schools for a panel discussion and mini college fair to help students better understand some of the varied college options that are available whether a large state school or small, private liberal arts college. On January 27 runners and walkers gather at Payne Park in downtown Sarasota for the annual Achieva Run for Good, raising money for Sarasota County Schools and on January 31, the competition begins with the annual STEM Fair where science projects from elementary, middle and high school students will be on display at Robarts Arena.
