Fitch Raises Manatee Schools Rating

Business

Fitch Ratings, an international credit rating agency based out of New York and London, raised its rating outlook for the Manatee County School District to Positive from Negative. The Fitch release said: “Unaudited results for fiscal 2014 indicate a sizable operating surplus, eliminating the negative balances reported in the previous two fiscal years. Actions taken to limit spending, improve internal controls and more accurately monitor district expenditures are credit positives.” Fitch also cited improving economic metrics such as favorable growth rates in employment, population and taxable property values in Manatee County as well as low debt ratios.
