Will Luera, Florida Studio Theatre

The Move And Then

Moved From: Boston, Mass. My Profession There:  Artistic Director Emeritus of ImprovBoston, Professor at Boston College. Friday Nights There: Watching or performing Improv, most of the time watching shows at ImprovBoston. I would then follow it up with a date night with my wife.

Why I movedThe opportunity to work for an establishment like Florida Studio Theatre is truly unique, not only because of its reputation in the region and relationship with the community but because of its potential. I truly believe that in short-time, we can offer some world class improv comedy opportunities both in regards to shows and also education. Now I Am: Director of Improvisation at Florida Studio Theatre. Friday Nights Now: Watching one of our amazing shows on one of our five stages followed by dinner at one of the awesome restaurants in the area.

First Impressions:  Coming from the Northeast, I can’t get over how close we are to so many amazing beaches. What a gift. My wife and I also love the more laid back feel of the community. It’s quite a change of pace for us. My daughters are loving the opportunity to play outside all of the time. All in all, it’s been a welcomed change for my whole family and we’re just beginning to scratch the surface of what Sarasota has to offer. Biggest Potential Community Mistake:  Speaking directly to my new role, I want to make sure to educate our audiences and guide them to everything Improv has to offer. There are so many nuances to it beyond comedy that can be beneficial in all facets of life, from business culture to confidence building to dating. I want to make sure I don’t go too fast and lose our audiences along the way. It’s going to be a fun and hilarious ride and I want all of Sarasota to come with me. My Vision: Work hard, play hard. I’ve already had my hands full and I know that there is a lot of work to do at our theater but the balance that Sarasota offers is amazing. I love that after a hard day at work, we have so many options for outdoor activities, fine dining or just relaxing in the sun. I’ve very happy to be here.
