Dining Alone? Eat at the Bar

Hunting & Gathering

It’s very important you cook for yourself as often as possible. Go to the Farmers’ Market on Saturday morning, get a bag of produce and make dinner a fun ritual. I also believe it’s important to treat yourself, to get away from the TV, to go out in to the world. Try new dishes, make new friends, sip craft cocktails. My three favorite places to sit at the bar and have a meal are Louies Modern (pictured), State Street and Selva Grill. Each bar has its own vibe, eclectic cast of characters and delicious draws. Louies Modern offers a smoky sweet cocktail called the Smoked Palm that features chipotle vodka and muddled strawberries which pairs perfectly with their Kung Pao Chicken Lollipops–gluten free and very tasty. State Street’s Bramble with muddled blackberries and gin hits a high note when enjoyed with the light and savory Chopped Butter Lettuce Salad. Selva Grill’s late night menu is affordable, stylishly presented and delicious. They make a mean Mojito to go with the Causa Fria–Octopus ceviche? Be still my heart.
