Sarasota County Emergency Management officials continue to monitor the remnants of Erika, after the storm dissipated Saturday. Sarasota County schools will be open today. Parents are encouraged to continually monitor weather reports and watch for potential flooding issues in their neighborhoods. Residents are urged to remain alert and prepared as increased rainfall and localized flooding are still possibility over the next few days. The National Weather Service considered the storm's impact to be diminished but still warned of the potential for 35 mph winds and rainy conditions as the storm passes over or near the Florida peninsula.
