A Longboat Key landmark could soon house one of the Gulf Coast’s buzziest restaurants and stores. Shore announced on Wednesday it was moving forward with plans to expand to the former site of Moore’s Stone Crab.

Shore has amended a site plan submitted to the Town of Longboat Key to be compliant with staff recommendations as far as zoning and other issues, which means canceling plans for a second floor. The restaurant now will have 185 dining seats. The restaurant will still pursue a variance with the town and permit with the state Department of Environmental Protection to rebuild the dock structure. “We are excited to become a member of the Longboat Key community and intend to bring good synergy to the surrounding area,” said Shore owner Tom Leonard. “Our intentions have always been to build something on the iconic location that will be attractive to the residents of the neighborhood, Longboat and boaters that frequent the area.  We’ve listened to staff comments and recommendations and feel this plan, if approved, will appease and comply with locals and governing organizations.”

Marketing coordinator Britney Guertin said having just 185 seats erases certain town concerns, such as a need for a substantial amount of additional parking. If all goes well, she hopes to see the restaurant and boutique open in the third or fourth quarter of 2016.
