The 39th Technology Student Association (TSA) State Conference held this weekend in Orlando welcomed middle and high school students from across the state, and this was the 12th straight year Manatee students captured more trophies and earned more Top Ten finishes than any other school district in Florida. Manatee County students brought 52 first-place event trophies, 36 second-place trophies and 31 third-place trophies for a new record of 119 event trophies. The students also brought home a new state record of 743 Top Ten student event finishing pins for all students who placed in the Top 10 in a competitive event. Manatee County also set an attendance record with 367 students from 13 Manatee County schools, including Bayshore High, Braden River High, Lakewood Ranch High, Manatee High, Palmetto High, Southeast High, Braden River Middle, Buffalo Creek Middle, Haile Middle, Johnson Middle, Lee Middle, Nolan Middle and Sugg Middle. The Outstanding School Award is given to the schools in the Top Ten based on a calculation of all event placements for all student competitors. Haile Middle earned first place; Braden River Middle, third place; Nolan Middle, sixth place; and Johnson Middle, eighth place. At the high school level, Braden River High earned first place; Southeast High, second place; Lakewood Ranch High, fourth place; Bayshore High, eighth place; and Palmetto High, ninth place. No other school district in the state had more schools receive the Top 10 Outstanding School Award than Manatee County.
