Buchanan Names Congressional Teacher Awards

Business

Congressman Vern Buchanan (FL-16) has announced the recipients of the Congressional Teacher Awards, including Danielle Murphy of Boyette Springs Elementary in Riverview, Carol Pelletier of Sarasota Military Academy Prep in Sarasota and Emilee Vermilion of Southeast High School in Bradenton. The Congressman honored the three teachers from Florida’s 16th Congressional District (which includes Manatee County, along with parts of Sarasota and Hillsborough Counties) during a ceremony at the Manatee County Commission Chambers. The Congressional Teacher Awards were established in 2014, and are given out to educators for their outstanding achievements. This year, 27 teachers were nominated by their respective principals. An independent panel of eight judges from the Congressional District chose the recipients. All chosen also received a congressional coin and a certificate from Congressman Buchanan, and were honored with a Congressional Record for their achievements. The flag was also flown at the U.S. Capitol in their honor.
