Apple Bottom

Hunting & Gathering

Looking for a decadent dessert but don't want the weight or the calories of chocolate? Libby's Café makes what's called a Dutch Apple Baby, a made-to-order masterpiece served in a hot skillet right out of the oven. Cinnamon-covered apple slices get baked into a puffy cake pastry and slathered (yes, slathered) with warm caramel sauce—every spoonful you raise to your mouth has golden sugar droplets reaching back down toward the gooey center. And don't forget the pièce de résistance: the cinnamon ice cream. It's cool, it's hot—the Dutch Baby is everything.

Libby's Cafe, 1917 South Osprey Ave., Sarasota, 941-487-7300.
