Gulf Coast Community Foundation is now accepting applications for the second class of its Gulf Coast Board Institute, a governance training series for new and experienced nonprofit board members. Applications for the five-session Board Institute, which begins in September, are available on the foundation’s website. The deadline to apply is August 11. Gulf Coast will select up to 25 applicants to participate in the Fall 2017 Board Institute. The group will take part in five interactive, half-day training sessions over a six-week period. Topics covered in the course include the basics of nonprofit board governance, financial and legal oversight responsibilities and how to create a highly functioning and engaged board. Participants will be selected through a competitive process with the intent of creating a group of individuals with a variety of experiences. The foundation provides all components of the Gulf Coast Board Institute at no cost to participants in exchange for their commitment to use what they learn to strengthen the governance capacity of a nonprofit in the Gulf Coast region. Gulf Coast Board Institute is a recent addition to Gulf Coast’s Invest in Incredible (I3) initiative, which also provides online resources, group workshops, and professional consulting services for nonprofits. The Institute’s format reflects the foundation’s popular Gulf Coast Leadership institute, which has supplied in-depth leadership training to about 300 community members over the past decade.
