I Whale Sarasota

Hunting & Gathering

When Shep and Ian Murray grew tired of the corporate life, the brothers decided to make ties instead of wear them. Inspired by the Martha’s Vineyard lifestyle, the two started a clothing store, Vineyard Vines, embodying a coastal and casual feel. Their logo, a smiling pink whale, pays homage to a wood carving their father did on the Vineyard and reminds everybody that “every day should feel this good.” Although Vineyard Vines doesn’t open at UTC for a few months, the smiling whale can still be found locally at places like Island Pursuit, on St. Armands Circle. Offering a variety of Vineyard Vines clothing and accessories, this whale-adorned graphic t-shirt subverts the iconic, playing off the classic look with the now-beloved pink logo. Vineyard Vines uses their smiling mascot as a substitute for a heart on the long sleeve shirt, reading as “I whale Sarasota,” combining local pride with love for the brand.

Island Pursuit, 400 Madison Dr. # 206, Sarasota, 941-388-2849.
