The Green Bean Coffee House epitomizes ‘green’ in every sense of the word—literally and figuratively—from the exterior paint finish of the cafe abode, the lush vegetation surrounding and the health-conscious items/practices offered inside. Of the many organic fair trade coffees, teas and espressos available, the Iced Dirty Chai is a fan favorite (served with homemade coffee ice cubes). And beyond its wonderful selection of beverages, Green Bean also sources locally-grown foods from farmers—taking pride in its free-range, GMO and hormone-free products and serving everything fresh in a homestead environment. Apart from many cafés, Green Bean goes above and beyond with such an extensive, yet affordable menu—including breakfast all day, pastries, wraps, fruit smoothies, soups, bar snacks, salads, sandwiches and paninis on local Bavarian Bread. They undoubtedly share a love for catering to our local community, especially to the college students of neighboring schools—Ringling College of Art & Design, New College of Florida and East West College of Natural Medicine.

Which explains the young, hipster cool and comfortably quaint atmosphere that compels an instant sensation like you’re somewhere admittedly edgier than Sarasota—Denver, CO or Portland, OR perhaps. Green Bean is flooded with eclectic local art (most for sale), bookshelves of fun reads, guitars, skateboard hangings, colorful throw pillows on cozy couches and vintage style chairs spread throughout the entire house. The backyard promotes even more fun with a mini skate ramp, lots of patio seating with Mexican blankets, string lights, hammocks and even a fenced-off pen where the café’s pig and chickens playfully greet patrons as they make their way outside. And possibly the most interesting aspect may be its neighboring cottage right next door, which is also owned by the Green Bean family, and can be rented out for the night like a homey bed 'n' breakfast type deal—pet-friendly and coffee included of course!
