Doctors Hospital Introduces Students to Surgical Robots

Dozens of children will be at Doctors Hospital of Sarasota as part of national Take our Daughters and Sons to Work Day. The children will tour different departments of the hospital and local surgeon, Bryan Smith, MD, will give the children a hands-on demonstration with the latest robot being used for surgery. The children will get the chance to dress like a surgeon and use the robot themselves. Children ranging in age from elementary to high school will tour the emergency room, dietary, imaging and therapy areas to learn about the different departments and careers in the hospital. At noon, one of our newest surgical robots being used by surgeons at Doctors Hospital, will be wheeled into the lobby and children will get to use it to remove and replace colorful rings from a model of an abdomen.
