Sarasota filmmaker Kathryn Parks was honored at the Sunshine City Film Festival on January 15 at the Palladium Theatre in St. Petersburg. The event, “L.I.F.E - Ladies in Film and Entertainment,” honored some of the top women in the film and entertainment industry from around the Tampa Bay area, and Parks’ short film, 50 Words, was screened at the event alongside five additional short films from notable female filmmakers. She was joined by honorees Andi Matheny, Rose Rosen, Tiffany Edwards, Siobhan Monique, PJ Crosby, Ashley Wooten and Erica Sutherlin.
50 Words, which Parks wrote, produced and starred in, provided opportunities for 130+ individuals in local talent and crew. It debuted at the 2018 Sarasota Film Festival, has been accepted into 13 film festivals across the country, and was nominated for “Best Florida Short” at the Tampa Bay Underground Film Festival. To bring 50 Words to life Parks collaborated with director Mark Palmer, a Sarasota-based cinematographer and owner of Mars Vision Productions.
