Sarasota County Schools has announced that Riverview High School’s Academic Olympics team recently won its first ever County Championship. Riverview defeated Pine View School’s team by one point, 202 to 201, during the final match of the Sarasota County Academic Olympics 2018-19 season. Academic Olympics competitions are conducted college-bowl style, with teams competing in a variety of subject areas with great intensity, similar to the grueling competition athletic teams face. This year’s final match featured six teams, resulting in several lead changes before Riverview’s Olympians claimed the top honors. The new County Champions from Riverview High School are: Coach Rebecca Heintz, Captain Julia Rohrbacher, Emily Gipson, Blake Harper, Leah Radovich, Teresa Sebastian, Sadie Siegel and Aleks Droval.

Per tradition, the Sarasota County All-Star Academic Olympics team was announced after the conclusion of the County Championship match. The team of talented Olympians throughout Sarasota County includes: Coach Steve Case of Venice High School,  Ellie Abbott of Sarasota High School, Amelia Baca of Venice High School, Alex Douglas of Pine View School, Claire Ellis of Venice High School, Munir Ben Jama of Pine View School, Julia Rohrbacher of Riverview High School and Peter Etz of Cardinal Mooney Catholic High School.
