WEDNESDAY FEB 27, 2019 |
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota County recently announced the expansion of a late-night program opportunity for hundreds of local teens. With support from the Charles & Margery Barancik Foundation, the Club At Night (CAN) Program will provide middle and high school students in Sarasota County with year-round academic, social and career-readiness opportunities at no cost. The organization launched the CAN pilot at the Roy McBean Boys & Girls Club in the summer of 2017 in response to teens needing a safe, positive place with mentors and enrichment activities after their personal commitments ended, such as first-time jobs or extra-curricular activities.
The expanded program will take place at the Roy McBean Boys & Girls Club off 21st Street, as well as the Lee Wetherington Boys & Girls Club off Fruitville Road. CAN will alternate between the two locations and run 6pm to 10pm every Friday during the school year, and every Friday and Saturday during the summer months. Participants will be encouraged to attend a variety of activities including robotics, photography, sports leagues, dances and scholarship workshops. Nutritious meals and snacks, as well as transportation home will be provided.
