CIty Urges Residents Continue Using Recycling Bins Through April 1

Government

As new, large recycling carts are delivered curbside this month, City of Sarasota residents are urged to continue using their classic recycling bins until April 1. The new single-stream collection system begins April 1, when City of Sarasota crews take over recycling collection.  The current contractor, Waste Pro, does not have the necessary equipment to lift the 65-gallon carts, and recycling carts left curbside prior to April 1 will not be emptied.

Approximately 15,000 carts are being delivered to residential customers throughout March.  The large carts will replace the smaller recycling bins, and the new single-stream system will allow all recyclables to be placed together in the large cart. Once the new collection system begins, the old recycling bins can be placed curbside for pickup, so the City can re-purpose or recycle them.
