Sarasota County to Host International Coastal Regatta This Weekend

Business

This Friday, November, 22 through Sunday, November 24, Sarasota will become the home to yet another discipline of rowing – coastal rowing. The first annual Sarasota Coastal Rowing Regatta will take place at South Lido Beach. The Sarasota Coastal Rowing Association (SCRA), a local non-profit organization, is acting as the event host in collaboration with USRowing. “We are looking to build an annual event that will bring in rowers, crews and spectators from around the United States and the World.” says Event Director, Jim Henderson. Coastal Rowing Races generally start with a foot sprint from a beach start to the boats in the water. Rowers then race on a single course out to sea and back around a series of buoy turns. Rowers beach the boat and run to the finish line to conclude the race. Heat races are typically 4K, and finals are 6K in length. Visitors and locals alike are encouraged to attend the events to spectate. For more information, visit SarasotaCoastalRowingAssociation.com.
