IMG Student App Promotes Nutritious Lifestyle

Todays News

Can an app on your smartphone help you diet and exercise more consistently? A new program developed by IMG Academy senior Lenox Huh aims to do just that.

His application, “House of Gainz,” aims to help users get news on fitness routines and detailed recipes on food to keep athletes eating right.

“As a competitive student athlete, I wanted to share important aspects of exercising, supplements and eating habits to help aspiring athletes reach their personal goal,” Huh says in a video explaining the app.

The program just won third place in the 2019 Congressional App Challenge, which pitted the software against other student developed entries from Congressional District 16. The competition is part of encouraging more students in the region to enter science, technology, math and engineering fields.

“STEM education gives students the knowledge they need to succeed and helps the U.S. compete in a global economy,” said U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan. “I am impressed by the creative and innovative apps that were developed and submitted by students from my district. The future is in good hands with these students.”

Ultimately, Huh’s program was beaten out by ButgetR, an app promoting fiscal responsibility in teens and that was developed by a team from Newsome High School in Hillsborough County.  Entries were judged by Stan Shultz and Sara Hand of Spark Growth, Sunita Ludwig of USF Sarasota-Manatee, David Cotrone of Vine Strategies,  and Marilyn Carrasquillo of Hillsborough Community College.
