Littoral combat ships were first introduced more than a decade ago to the naval fleet to increase forward presence and complete diverse missions. Fireman Apprentice Brittany Davis is one of the sailors serving aboard USS Jackson, homeported in San Diego. Davis is a 2017 Manatee High School graduate and native of Bradenton, Florida.  According to Davis, the values required to succeed in the Navy are similar to those found in Bradenton.  “I learn better when I get to do something, so learning things hands-on was very fun for me, especially when it came down to fixing things,” said Davis. "What I learned growing up in Bradenton influenced the job I chose in the Navy." 

With more than 90 percent of all trade traveling by sea, and 95 percent of the world’s international phone and internet traffic carried through fiber optic cables lying on the ocean floor, Navy officials continue to emphasize that the prosperity and security of the United States is directly linked to a strong and ready Navy.
