The Manatee County Veterans Services Division is celebrating Woman Veterans during the week of March 14 to 20, 2021, by showcasing on social media a small sampling of the nearly 4,000 who live in Manatee County. Renee Medina, Senior Veterans Services Counselor, said their Veterans Services team has found that unlike their male counterparts, female Veterans are much less likely to seek other Veterans, join Veteran-related clubs or get support. They are also less identifiable by not donning Veterans hats or other attire. Medina said, “Female veterans are much less likely to consider themselves Veterans as well as find out the benefits they have earned with their service. We believe by spotlighting these wonderful women, it will help encourage other female Veterans to feel proud, equal and encourage any who may be hesitant to reach out to our office."
