SouthTech Data Dump Collects 11,905 Pounds of Recyclable Electronics

Business

On Earth Day, April 22nd, the Data Dump collected 11,905 pounds of recyclable electronics. We want to thank all participants, including the Lakewood Ranch Business Alliance, Lakewood Ranch Community Activities, and Quicksilver Recycling Services for, collecting the electronics. SouthTech also wants to thank the members of the community who stopped by to recycle their old electronics.

The Data Dump is a community favorite, as it is an effective way to recycle electronics, and securely destroy remaining data. Quicksilver Recycling Services punches all hard drives with an industrial drill press, destroying all data. Then, the electronics are sent to the Quicksilver Recycling Services facility in Tampa to be reused, resold, or recycled. Recyclables get sent to metal refining companies for urban mining.

The Data Dump is a semi-annual event, usually held in the spring and in the fall. To find out when the next Data Dump is, go to southtech.com/data-dump, or you can visit SouthTech’s Facebook page for updates once it gets closer to fall.
